About Kate
In addition to writing about contemporary quilt art, Kate Lenkowsky participates in both traditional and studio quilt activities. She learned to quilt in the early 1990s and subsequently won several awards at the Indiana State Fair. Her quilt, A Call to Service, hangs in the entryway of the Corporation for National and Community Service at its headquarters in Washington, D.C. For Everything There Is a Season hangs at Congregation Shaarey Tefilla in Carmel, Indiana.
Contemporary Quilt Art: An Introduction and Guide grew out of the author’s desire to learn more about the relationships between studio quilts and other forms of visual art and to share her interest in and love of this art with the public. Publications include a historical monograph about the former home of the Hudson Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana, articles in Surface Design Journal and Fiberarts, the online edition of AmericanStyle, and the website of the Studio Art Quilt Associates under “Collectors’ Corner.” In the fall of 2009, she taught Pieced Construction to students in the textile program at Indiana University’s School of Fine Arts.
