Artist Statement

My art work has evolved from traditional quilts into a broader range of textile art and prints.  Influenced by the study of global textile traditions and art history, I utilize weave structures like herringbone and twills, embroidery, and the formal elements of color and line to create compositions evoking a sense of place or a moment in time.

QUILTS

My early quilts have a traditional format in which established patterns and hand drawn appliquѐ are used.  Later, the study of global textiles and art history, particularly early modern and German expressionist art, influenced my work. The textiles of Pre-Columbian Peru, West Africa, and Southeast Asia have also been influential as has the weaving of the Bauhaus artist Anni Albers.
